Western Senior Photos in the Colorado Mountains

Never in a million years could you have told me last year, that I’d be planning a western style senior photo session in Colorado.

Cowboy hats, boots, trucks, lassos and the mountains.

This shoot was a dream come true and excited my photographer heart.

My partner and I visited Colorado in 2020, and it was love at first sight. The mountains made me feel so small, made our problems feel small. And that feeling of insignificance was what I craved. Living in a big city where no one knew our names. A clean slate.

3 years later, we moved to Denver.

We hit the ground running as soon as we got here. Hungry for success. Although, the idea of starting over in a new city with my own business was absolutely terrifying.

My very first client in Colorado was a high school senior. He wanted to show off his personal style, his truck and love for soccer.

We started off with the western vibes and his truck. It was an overcast day which made for this perfectly delicious soft light. We somehow had the area to ourselves - no limits to what we could create.

Tyler was easy-going. I noticed quickly that he truly cared about these photographs, and that made all of the difference.

I had to pull myself away from this location, because I could have photographed there all afternoon. The sun was going down and we had to boogie it over to the soccer fields.

The confidence Tyler exuded in this part of the session was contagious. Soccer was obviously something he had done for years. He was truly in his element.

At the very end of the session, it started to rain suddenly. And, the most vibrant rainbow started to emerge from the clouds.

Standing under the rainbow, I felt validated in that moment. Tyler’s senior photo session worked out to be everything and more.

I could and would succeed in Colorado.

Special thanks to Tyler’s mom, Lorrin, who trusted my vision from the beginning ♡
